How to make a invoice in one minute
- Choose India under Country preset. Currency switches to INR with lakh grouping, Paper size to A4, both ID labels to GSTIN, and the HSN/SAC column and Place of supply field appear.
- Fill in From with your business name, address and GSTIN, then Bill to with the recipient's name, address and GSTIN if they are registered. Enter the Place of supply state.
- Pick the GST type: Within state for CGST + SGST (2.5 + 2.5, 6 + 6, 9 + 9 or 14 + 14) or Interstate for IGST at 5, 12, 18 or 28. The heading changes to Tax Invoice.
- Add Line items with the HSN/SAC code, Description, Qty, Unit and Rate. Each line's taxable value and the GST split are calculated under Totals.
- Check the Invoice number, Date and Due date, add Payment details with your bank name and account number (IFSC or UPI ID in Notes), then press Download PDF.
What an invoice in India must show
The India preset carries a six-item checklist drawn from the usual contents of a GST tax invoice, and each item maps to a field. Presets are starting points — confirm current rates and requirements with your tax authority.
The heading “Tax Invoice” and a consecutive serial number. The Document title switches to Tax Invoice on its own as soon as a GST line carries a rate. The Invoice number counter increments per document and warns about duplicates. Many businesses restart the series each financial year with a prefix such as 2026-27/001.
Your name, address and GSTIN. These go in From, where the ID label reads GSTIN.
The recipient’s name, address and GSTIN. Bill to has a matching GSTIN field for registered buyers. For an unregistered customer leave it empty.
Place of supply and the invoice date. The Place of supply field sits with the document details. It is the state (or union territory) where the supply is treated as made, and it decides whether CGST and SGST or IGST apply. The Date prints as DD/MM/YYYY.
HSN or SAC code, description, quantity and taxable value per line. The HSN/SAC column is on by default: HSN codes classify goods, SAC codes classify services. Each line also has a Description, Qty, Unit and Rate, and the amount is the taxable value for that line.
CGST and SGST, or IGST, with rates and amounts. The totals block prints each GST line with its rate and amount beneath the taxable subtotal, then the total. Rupee amounts use Indian grouping, so one lakh prints as ₹1,00,000.00.
The preset also sets INR, A4 paper and a notes line, “Subject to local jurisdiction. Please pay by the due date.” If you are not registered, or supply only exempt goods, you issue a bill of supply rather than a tax invoice: change the Document title and remove the GST lines.
CGST, SGST and IGST in the GST invoice generator
GST in India is split between the centre and the states. When the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state, the tax is charged as CGST plus SGST, each at half the rate, so an 18% supply shows CGST 9% and SGST 9%. When they are in different states, the whole amount is charged as IGST. The GST type picker lists both forms for the 5%, 12%, 18% and 28% slabs, and the default is CGST 9% + SGST 9%.
Every rate is editable. Supplies taxed at 0.25% or 3%, or a slab that changes after the build date, are handled by typing the rate into the tax line. Union territories charge UTGST in place of SGST; rename the line and keep the rate. Because CGST and SGST use two of the three available tax lines, an invoice that mixes several slabs is easier to split into two invoices than to force onto one.
The India preset has no reverse-charge toggle. If a supply falls under reverse charge, where the recipient pays the GST, remove the GST lines and state that in Notes. When you quote prices inclusive of GST, the tax-inclusive toggle under Totals works backwards to show the taxable value and each tax separately.
Your data stays on your device
Your GSTIN, your customers' details and every tax invoice you make here are stored in this browser only, never on a server. The PDF is generated in your browser by a small worker; nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to create. Drafts, clients and your business profile live in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB), and one button under "Your data" deletes all of it. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while you fill in and download a document, and note that no request carries your details. Read the privacy policy and how it works for the details.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a GSTIN to make an invoice?
No. Without a GSTIN you cannot charge GST, so leave the GSTIN field empty, remove the CGST, SGST or IGST lines and change the Document title to Bill of Supply or Invoice. Registration is compulsory above a turnover threshold that differs for goods and services and is lower in special category states; the GST portal has the current figures.
What is the difference between a tax invoice and a bill of supply?
A tax invoice is issued by a registered supplier and shows GST charged, with GSTINs, HSN or SAC codes and the CGST and SGST or IGST amounts. A bill of supply is issued when no GST is charged: by an unregistered business, by a composition dealer or for exempt goods. The preset prints Tax Invoice whenever a GST line has a rate; edit the title otherwise.
When do I use IGST instead of CGST and SGST?
When the place of supply is in a different state from the one you are registered in. Same state: CGST plus SGST, each at half the rate. Different state, or an export: IGST at the full rate. Pick the matching entry in the GST type picker and fill in Place of supply so the invoice shows why that split was used.
Is this a GST e-invoice with an IRN and QR code?
No. An e-invoice under GST is registered on the government's Invoice Registration Portal, which returns an IRN and a signed QR code; that applies to businesses above a turnover limit (5 crore rupees at the time of writing). This tool builds a PDF in your browser and transmits nothing to the portal or anywhere else. If e-invoicing applies to you, you need software connected to the portal.
How are rupee amounts formatted?
With Indian grouping: ₹1,00,000.00 for one lakh and ₹1,00,00,000.00 for one crore, with two decimals. The preset sets INR and en-IN formatting, and the preview and the PDF use the same rules, so what you see on screen is what prints.
Can I invoice a client abroad in dollars?
Yes. Change Currency to USD or any other currency in the document settings. Exports of services have their own GST treatment (often zero-rated under a letter of undertaking, or with IGST charged and claimed back), and the invoice normally shows Place of supply as outside India; confirm the route that applies to you with your tax adviser.
Do I need an HSN or SAC code on every line?
Registered businesses generally must show the code, with the number of digits depending on annual turnover; HSN is for goods and SAC for services. The India preset turns the HSN/SAC column on, and the code prints beside each description. If you are not required to show it, the column can be switched off.
Can I show prices that already include GST?
Yes. Turn on the tax-inclusive toggle under Totals and enter the inclusive price as the Rate. The editor works backwards to show the taxable value, CGST and SGST (or IGST) and the total, so the invoice still lists the tax separately.
