How the invoice templates differ
The 25 templates fall into three groups, and what separates them is what is prefilled, not how the PDF is built.
Invoice templates by trade (18). Freelance, contractor, hourly, consulting, photography, graphic design, web design, cleaning, lawn care, plumbing, electrician, handyman, painting, tutoring, trucking, catering, commercial (customs) and blank. Each carries two or three sample lines typical of that work, so a plumber sees a call-out fee, labour by the hour and a parts line, while a photographer sees a package fee, an extra-images line and a deducted retainer. Trades that work on site get an extra labelled field such as Job address, Service address or Site address; trucking adds Load / BOL No., Pickup and Delivery; catering adds Event date and Venue. The commercial invoice turns on an HS code column and adds Country of origin, Incoterm and Shipment ref. fields. The blank template is six empty ruled lines you can print and fill in by hand.
Receipt templates (5). Rent, cash, deposit, payment and sales receipts. These use the receipt document type, so a Received from block, Payment date, Payment method and a Paid mark replace the due date and payment terms. The rent receipt adds Rental period and Property fields; the deposit receipt adds Deposit for and Refundable. They are for businesses and landlords issuing receipts for real payments.
Quote and purchase order (2). The quote template is the estimate type with a Valid until date, deposit terms and an Accepted by line. The purchase order template is the buyer’s side of a deal: Vendor and Ship to blocks, a PO number and a delivery date.
What “template” means here
Three things at once. First, a prefilled document: sample items, the default unit (hrs, visits, miles, guests), notes and terms wording, and any custom fields for that trade. Second, a set of labels that match the job, so the editor speaks the language of the trade. Third, a blank PDF of the same layout that you can download without touching the editor.
Nothing about a template is locked. Replace the sample lines with your own, delete the fields you do not need, and the result is your invoice. Once you have it set up the way you like, use Save as template to keep your own version on this device and New from template to start the next one from it.
Six layouts, one editor
Every template opens in the same editor and can use any of the six PDF layouts: Classic (two-column header, ruled table), Modern (accent band, bold totals), Minimal (no rules, generous whitespace), Compact (a dense table for many lines), Ledger (a serif feel with numbered rows) and Receipt (single column with a PAID mark, used by the receipt type). Switch between them under Document settings. The accent colour, logo and paper size are separate choices, so a Compact layout with your logo works as well for a trucking invoice as for a cleaning one.
How to choose
Start with the document you need to send, not the trade name. If someone owes you money, pick an invoice template; if they have already paid, pick a receipt; if the work has not started, pick the quote. Then choose the closest trade. A landscaper can use the lawn care template, a locksmith the handyman one, and anyone billing time the hourly one. If nothing fits, the blank template or the plain invoice generator on the home page is one click away, and the country presets and layouts are the same wherever you start.
Frequently asked questions
Are the invoice templates really free to use?
Yes. Every template, the editor and the PDF download are free, with no account and no watermark. The site is funded by display ads on the pages around the editor, never inside it. The small "Created with One Minute Invoice" line in the PDF footer is on by default and can be switched off in the footer settings.
Can I download a template without filling anything in?
Yes. Each template page offers a blank PDF of that layout with the trade's labels and empty ruled lines, which is useful for printing and completing by hand. The blank invoice template is the plainest version: six empty lines, standard labels and no sample text at all.
Can I make my own template?
Yes. Set up a document the way you want it, including line items, tax lines, notes and layout, then choose Save as template. It is stored in your browser, not on a server. New from template starts a fresh document with the next number from it, while Duplicate copies an existing document instead.
Do the templates work with my country's taxes?
Yes. A template sets the line items and labels; the country preset sets the currency, paper size, tax lines and ID labels. Choose a preset under Document settings and the plumbing template, for example, becomes a GST/HST invoice for Canada or a VAT invoice for the UK. Presets are starting points — confirm current rates and requirements with your tax authority.
