How to make a invoice in one minute
- Enter your business under From and the customer under Bill to. Fill in Site address when the job was elsewhere, and your licence number in Licence No.
- Replace the sample descriptions and rates: fixed-price items keep a quantity per unit installed (4 downlights at 95.00 each); fault finding uses hrs and your hourly rate.
- Press Add line for materials you supplied, or bundle them into a supply and fit line as the first sample does.
- Set Terms to Net 7 to match the prefilled terms and add GST under Totals; the Australia preset loads the GST line and an ABN label.
- Check the Notes about the safety certificate, then press Download PDF.
How to invoice for electrical work
Electricians tend to mix two pricing methods on one invoice, and the template reflects that. Installed items are priced per unit: the first sample line is four LED downlights at 95.00 each, supply and fit, and the second is a replaced double power point at a fixed 140.00. Diagnostic work is priced by time: the third line is one hour of fault finding and testing at 120.00, with hrs as the unit. Price per unit where the scope is known and by the hour where it is not.
Replace the descriptions with the rooms and items you worked on, and keep quantities honest: four downlights means quantity 4. Materials you supplied are either listed on their own lines with quantities or folded into a supply and fit line; the first suits larger jobs where the customer wants to see the parts, the second keeps small jobs simple.
Two fields sit above the line items. Site address records where the work was done when it differs from the billing address, common for rental properties and builders. Licence No. holds your electrical licence number, which many jurisdictions expect to see on the invoice.
The prefilled Notes say the certificate of electrical safety is issued separately; add its number once you have it. The Terms and conditions line asks for payment within 7 days and states that materials remain your property until paid, a retention-of-title clause meaning unpaid fittings still belong to you. Under Totals, the Australia preset adds a GST line and an ABN label.
Quote first, then the electrician invoice template
For anything bigger than a call-out, customers expect a price first. Make the quote in the estimate generator with the same per-item and hourly lines, then press Convert to invoice when the work is finished: the lines carry over, the invoice takes the next number, and you adjust only what changed on site. When the customer pays, Mark as paid updates the status in Recent documents.
Your data stays on your device
Every electrician invoice, site address and licence number you enter is saved in this browser only and never sent to a server. The PDF is generated in your browser by a small worker; nothing is uploaded, and there is no account to create. Drafts, clients and your business profile live in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB), and one button under "Your data" deletes all of it. To verify, open your browser's developer tools, watch the Network tab while you fill in and download a document, and note that no request carries your details. Frequently asked questions
Do I have to put my licence number on an electrician invoice?
Many jurisdictions expect the electrical licence number on invoices and certificates, and customers increasingly check it. The template has a Licence No. field that prints in the meta block next to the invoice number. Check the rules for your state or country; this page is not legal advice.
Should I charge per item or per hour?
Both, depending on the work. Installs with a known scope (a downlight, a power point, a switchboard) are easiest to price per unit, because the customer can compare quotes and you are rewarded for speed. Fault finding is open-ended, so it is billed by the hour.
How do I show materials I supplied?
Either list them on separate lines with quantities and unit prices, or write a supply and fit line that bundles the part and the labour, as the downlight sample does. Separate lines suit larger jobs; bundled lines keep small jobs simple. Either way, say so in the description.
Where do I mention the certificate of electrical safety?
In Notes. The prefilled text says the certificate is issued separately; add the certificate number and date once it is issued so the invoice and certificate can be matched later by the customer, a landlord or an inspector. Keep the certificate itself as its own document rather than pasting its contents into the invoice.
What does 'materials remain our property until paid' mean?
It is a retention-of-title clause: the fittings you supplied stay yours until the invoice is paid, which strengthens your position if a customer does not pay. It is prefilled in Terms and conditions with a 7-day payment term. Edit or remove it to suit how you trade; whether it holds up depends on local law.
Can I add GST and my ABN?
Yes. Choose the Australia preset in Document settings and the editor adds a GST line under Totals and an ABN field in the From block. Presets are starting points; confirm the current rate and whether you need to register with your tax authority.
